Galapagos Different attractions on different months.

So, when is actually the best time to visit Galapagos Islands. This is probably one of the most common inquiries travelers make before visiting the Galapagos Islands via land tours. I know it often happens that it is best to visit certain locations in the world during certain seasons.

However, when working, it is almost impossible to match my holiday schedule with that of these exotic destinations. Well, the good news is that Galapagos is that one place which you can visit almost all year long and still expect an amazing wildlife activity and template weather.

For those planning a vacation to The Galapagos Islands – Ecuador, here’s all the info you need to know what to expect each season in the Islands. Each season offers its own charms regarding weather and wildlife activity; this is what makes the Galapagos ideal to visit almost all year long!

A Galapagos Islands trip includes visiting one or more of the eighteen islands that form this small archipelago (depending in the trip style). The beauty of this region stems both from its remoteness as well as its unique flora and fauna, which is mostly endemic in nature.

The islands offer a huge contrast in terms of landscape, ranging from stark arid cacti filled regions to lush green coastal bays and highlands that are equally green and beautiful. The sea water is crystal clear and the beaches truly exotic, making it a wonderful place to enjoy your vacation.

Regarding Galapagos Islands land tours,  which take you via land and sea across various Galapagos Islands, it is best enjoyed during the so called “peak season”, which ranges from mid June to early September and again from mid December to early January.  While this is defined as the peak tourist season, it is pertinent to note that these islands can be visited at any point of the year.

Given that they are situated near the equator they aren’t subject to any major temperature differences. Care should be taken to book in advance, if you are planning to travel during the peak season, as the island only allows a certain number of people into its boundaries during this period.

Activities during the peak season from December to May

This is the time when it is really warm in this region. You can also experience some rains during this period. However, this is the perfect season for those who love snorkeling or any kind of sea activity. The warmer months bring out all the wonderful animals that populate these islands, including the iguanas, sea turtles, land tortoises and many land birds. In fact, this is the nesting season for sea turtles and therefore you can see and enjoy their beauty in hordes.

Similarly, it is the breeding season for land birds, which in turn allows you to get glimpses of some of the rare species of birds as well as the common ones, all coming together and flocking to the wonderful vegetation of this place. The presence of birds of different kinds on the coastal vegetation is definitely a sight to behold. In addition, you can see sea lions and sea turtles during the mating season. If you were to visit during March or later, you will get to see the small pups that are a result of this mating. This is why it is believed that irrespective of when you take the Galapagos Islands tour, you will emerge the winner by having a great and memorable vacation.

The island also comes alive with color during the months of March as this is when the flowers bloom. The indigenous and endemic plants that dot the island are all in full bloom during this period, making it a really colorful place to visit.

For those of you who prefer an activity-based holiday, this is the perfect time to swim, snorkel and simply relax on the beach as you are treated to the best of sunshine and the warmest of waters.

Season starting from June through November

This is the season of relatively cold weather and colder waters, where there is a current flowing through the sea, making it more turbulent and definitely more exciting. If you can brave the cold waters, tourists believe that this is the perfect time for divers. The cold currents bring along with it a variety of fish and other sea species, which make it an excellent experience for deep sea divers. Additionally, the influx of fish in these waters bring along with it a variety of sea birds, making the coast line a quaint haven for these birds and in turn, the bird watchers.

You also get to see rare species like the penguins and blue footed boobies, which are usually, found in colder climates but make their way here during these months. This is also the mating season for these blue footed boobies, which is a ritual that you should not miss. In addition, you also get to witness the presence of the Spanish Albatross that had come in earlier to lay the eggs. Also, June onwards is when you can see the Humpback whales as they migrate to warmer climates and often pass this archipelago.

Whether you are someone interested in bird watching, or a naturalist, or someone who simply wants to have a great and peaceful vacation, your Galapagos islands travel will offer something for everyone, making it the perfect destination. Trekking to higher grounds, walking through the natural botanical garden of the area, or soaking the sun on the wonderful beaches – you can do all these and more to become a part of this natural surrounding while rejuvenating your mind, body and soul. And if you are bored with what one island has to offer, all you need to do is reach the different islets that surround the area and you will never be at a loss for things to see or do.
